Elective: User experience design
(Faculty of Human Technology Interaction)
Course activities
This course focused on applying user-centred design in ethically sensitive contexts, in this case working with people living with dementia. Fieldwork and observations were conducted in care homes to understand daily interactions and communication challenges. Early concepts were evaluated using a Wizard of Oz prototype to explore feasibility and user response.
Alongside concept development, different ideation techniques and visual communication approaches were explored, with ongoing reflection on how value could be created responsibly for residents, caregivers, and organisations.
This resulted in Flokkie: an interactive artefact that supports non-verbal expression through touch and sound, enabling more inclusive interaction for people with dementia.
Involved stakeholders: Buurthuis de Meerpaal, Zorggroup Grootenhout
