Designing user interfaces with emerging technologies
Course activities
In this course, the focus was on exploring how emerging technologies can be applied as design research tools. The work investigated how everyday situations can be reimagined through novel technologies, using Computer Vision markers to prototype interactions and explore their potential value. Within a team, a prototype grounded in an emerging technology was developed to support research, followed by user studies to understand participant responses and behavioural effects. I collaboratively took a leading role in the development and technical realisation of the prototype.
This resulted in LightWork: a research artefact that uses floor sensing to explore how sedentary behaviour during student meetings could be reduced by subtly encouraging movement.
